A new home for cutting edge dance in Brooklyn
Recently, John Jasperse Company and Chez Bushwick came together to form the Center for Performance Research which will purchase the 4000 SF commercial unit on the ground floor of “greenbelt.”
This new development was created to provide 4000 square feet to the vibrant dance community that has been growing steadily over the last ten years in Williamsburg and Bushwick, Brooklyn, NY.
The developers sought to provide this space in order to help curtail the displacement of local artists due to spikes in housing and working space. Rather than fight against this tide, the developers decided two years ago to harness the economic power of the condo market, by selling market rate units to subsidize space for the arts.
Every stage of the design was undertaken in consultation with the dance companiesto insure that the space would accommodate its purpose but remain flexible.
And all that remains is to raise the funds these three groups needto make this dream into a reality . . . .
